Starting the Year of Giving Back: Cottonwood Artist Judges the Reflections Contest at Martinez' Elementary

Cottonwood is launching "A Year of Giving Backing" which is focused on the ways that Cottonwood and its artists are contributing to the community around them. While the official launch of the program will be next month at the Holiday Gala with Bill's Kids; artist, Dusty R Shutt of The Forest's Edge, Ltd., got an early start.

On Friday, Annie (R-from Annies' Pressed Flower Designs, LLC) joined Dusty, (C-The Forest's Edge, Ltd located at Cottonwood Center for the Arts) in judging Martinez Elementary School's Reflections contest. The contest coordinator is Jeanne Osko (L-Teacher).

This year's theme was "Together We Can..." Each student that participated was to fill in the rest of the title. The participants could choose from the following categories: Visual Arts, Music, Photography or Literature.

Eighteen students participated this year. They were divided into 2 groups: primary (PreK through 2nd) and intermediate (3rd through 5th). The Visual Arts category had the largest number of entrants; 12 in all (5 primary & 7 intermediate). The photography category had 4 participants with 1 each in the two remaining categories.

The top five place winners in each category will advance to the next level where they will be judged along with other area winners. The winners could advance as far as nationals.

Next Monday evening will be the Awards Ceremony for Martinez Elementary School's winning artists. I'll post more next Tuesday.
